$25 Sand Dune Summer Special

Looking for affordable summer fun? Combine two fun activities a make one memorable day. Ride the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad out of La Veta and enjoy Colorado mountain scenery and wildlife. A stop will then let you connect to a shuttle for a brief ride to the Great Sand Dunes National Park where you'll have two hours to play at the dunes before returning to the train for a return ride to La Veta.

Rails, Tales & Tails

Board the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad for the weekend venture of Rails, Tales and Tails. This special package is available only for the weekend of July 25th.

Pack your weekend bag and climb aboard the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad in La Veta, Colorado. Your first stop is Fir enjoy the mountain air, a chuck wagon style lunch and Michael Martin Murphey for music and cowboy tales.

After the concert you will board the train for Alamosa, Colorado, but you will be stopping at Ft. Garland for the start of your next tail. You will be picked up at Ft. Garland and taken to Zapata Ranch- the nature Conservancy, working cattle and bison ranch for an evening on a working ranch. Your evening starts with check-in at Zapata Ranch and a dinner of bison burger and all the fixin's, complete your day with a night of stargazing.

Breakfast is provided to you the following morning before you begin your next tail, "the bison tour" you are taken for an excursion "out where the bison roam" for a morning of bison viewing. A sack lunch is provide to you while you are out on the range.

You return to the ranch in time to wash-up and return to Ft. Garland where you board the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad for your trip back to La Veta, CO. Your tail may be tired, but you'll have plenty to tell. Call 1-877-72-RAIL for reservations and pricing.

Potato Valley Explorer--Canned Food Drive

Bring in a canned food for $1 off train fare--with a maximum of 5 cans per person. Valid for excursions on the Potato Valley Explorer for the month of July. No blackout dates, cannot be combined with any other offers. Only valid on the PVE. Proceeds will benefit San Luis Valley Food Banks. Must call for reservations 1-877-726-RAIL. Cans must be brought in to reservation department prior to boarding train.

Four Seasons Railcard

The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad's Four Seasons Railcard is the best way to celebrate the change of seasons all year long. For just $99 the card bearer gets any four rides of their choosing. Special theme trains are included: try Rail & Ales or the Mountain Music Show this summer, fall folliage this autumn and see Santa on a North Pole Express. There are photographers trains, musical guests or a ride to the Great Sand Dunes National Park--a full calendar of events is available. Priced at just $99 for all four rides.

It is necessary to call reservations (1-877-726-RAIL) to purchase a Four Seasons Railcard. This initial pricing is valid while supplies last. Cards are non-transferable. Rio Grande Scenic Railroad Junior Engineers

Rio Grande Scenic Railroad is pleased to offer our Junior Engineer Program, for kids under 12 years of age, on Mondays and Tuesdays starting in June.

Prior to boarding, Junior Engineers will be able to view a locomotive under repair (in Alamosa only) and ask one of our Rio Grande Engineers questions. All kids enrolled will receive a striped engineer cap and bandana.

Program is available on Mondays and Tuesdays, June 1 through August 31, for all children under 12 with a paid full-price ticket on the San Luis Express that runs between Alamosa and La Veta. No discounts or special offers may apply. Please let the reservationist know how many children wish to participate in the program when you place your reservation.
