The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad Presents Michael Martin Murphey in Concert on La Veta Pass

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, August 31, 2007

ALAMOSA, CO – Singing cowboy poet and widely-loved Western Music Hall of Fame inductee Michael Martin Murphey will perform in a magical setting under the stars when the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad hosts a first-of-its-kind outdoor concert on La Veta Pass on September 8, 2007. The first in the railroad’s newly-announced High Altitude Summer Concert Series, the show is available exclusively to railroad passengers on the special Highnote Express train.

On Saturday, September 8, 2007 the Highnote Express will leave the Alamosa depot for a scenic, late-afternoon train ride to Fir Station, where concertgoers will deboard high in the Sangre de Cristos to enjoy autumn colors and picnic-style dining. Murphey, best known for his haunting 1970s hit “Wildfire”, takes the stage as the sun sets at 7pm for an intimate, one-of-a-kind performance.

The train will return to Alamosa at about 10:30 pm.

Murphey has earned six gold records in his career, and is regarded as one of the most respected singer-songwriters in pop and country-western music. Other hit singles from Murphey include “Cowboy Logic,” “Carolina in the Pines,” “What’s Forever For,” and “Long Line of Love.” He also penned New Mexico's state ballad, “The Land of Enchantment.”

Concert tickets are $75 and include the round-trip train ride on the Highnote Express. Reservations can be made online or by phone by calling (877) 726-RAIL.

Passengers should plan to arrive at least 30 minutes in advance of departure to purchase or pick up tickets and board the train. Those who wish to check blankets, lawn chairs and coolers, which must ride in the train’s freight area, are advised to arrive 45 minutes in advance.
