| Special, Commemorative Trip on June 13th |
|
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, June 05, 2007 ALAMOSA, CO - For the first time since the opening of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in 1970, passengers can experience a steam-powered ride between Alamosa and Antonito on a one-time, special trip commemorating the historic San Juan passenger train on Wednesday, June 13th. The San Juan, chronicled in several books by the late Lucius Beebe, was the Rio Grande's famous steam-powered passenger train running between Durango, Chama, Antonito and Alamosa during the first half of the 20th century, and hasn't run since 1951. The special run will depart Alamosa at 2:45 p.m., pulled by the railroad's turn-of-the-century steam engine, the SP 1744, and will arrive at the Antonito station in time to rendezvous with the historic Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad as it pulls into the station from Chama, New Mexico. Passengers on both trains will have the opportunity to take photographs of the two vintage steam engines side by side - a rare and very special opportunity for train and history lovers alike. The train will return to Alamosa at 5:45 p.m. Fares for the commemorative trip on Wednesday, June 13th are just $10 per person for all ages, and tickets for the ride are on sale now at the Alamosa depot, by phone at (877) 726-RAIL or online at www.alamosatrain.com. |
