Rio Grande Scenic Railroad Heats Up this Winter with Weekend Excursions |
|
Alamosa, Colo. (Nov. 5, 2008) – Just as the winter chill starts to blow in, the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad begins winter getaways to remote areas of the San Luis Valley via the Winter Wonderland Express.
The trips on Colorado’s historic mountain train take people to remote areas of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains—not accessible by car—on Saturdays and Sundays. During the excursions, which depart from Alamosa or La Veta (just 16 miles west of Interstate 25 near Walsenburg), passengers are treated to plush seating in the train’s dome cars, spectacular views and savory meal selections.
“Winter in Colorado is a magical time, and there’s no better way to experience the beauty and serenity than through the warmth and comfort of nostalgic train travel,” said John E. Thomas, vice president of sales and marketing for the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad. “And with our special ticket pricing an entire group can enjoy the trips together at a reasonable cost.”
In conjunction with the special trips, the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad also introduces a way for families and friends to earn free tickets through the “Let the Savings Snowball” promotion. For dome car seating, passengers can buy one regularly priced ticket at $58 and get a second ticket at 50 percent off, followed by 75 percent off the purchase of a third ticket. A fourth ticket is free. The offer is valid through Jan. 15, 2009.
Tickets in the dome car are $58; general seating tickets are $48 for adults, $43 for seniors and $33 for children. Reservations can be made by calling 1-877-726-RAIL. For more information, visit www.riograndescenicrailroad.com.
